- Romania holds 2.5% of the world's total vineyard area, which means 179,000 hectares planted with vines, according to data from the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV-2021).
- Romania ranks 5th in the European Union and among the top 15 countries in the world in terms of vineyard surface and wine production.
- In 2021 Romania produced 4,451.1 thousand hectolitres of wine. It was one of the few countries that recorded growth compared with 2020, up by 37%. It was the best harvest of the last five years.
- Romania has 8 wine-growing regions: the Hills of Crișana and Maramureș, the Transylvanian Plateau, the Hills of Banat, the Hills of Oltenia and Muntenia, the Danube Terraces, the Southern Sands, the Hills of Dobrogea, and the Hills of Moldavia.
- Each wine region includes several vineyards, and each vineyard contains several wine-growing centres. In those centres we find the wineries, the places where wine comes to life.
- In Romania, the number of wineries has grown by 25% over the last 5 years. There are now more than 400.
